Tuesday evenings rolling through Frankfurt's streets on inline skates: From the beginning to the end of Central European Summer Time, Frankfurt invites you to join in Tuesday Night Skating (TNS):
The 2016 season runs from March 29 to October 25.
Departure for the TNS tour is every Tuesday punctually at 8:30 pm, even in bad weather.
Tours start and end at Hafenpark (Mayfarthstraße), on the north side of the Main River in Frankfurt's Ostend district. The Hafenpark, which opened in July 2013 to the east of the new ECB premises, is a 40,000 sqm exercise park with a variety of sports and leisure facilities, including a skate park.
Different routes are ridden on a weekly basis - to the northern districts of Frankfurt or south to Neu-Isenburg, west towards Höchst or east to Offenbach. The routes are about 28 - 35 km long.
In general, the tours end around 11 pm, also at the Hafenpark. The tours are announced in the press with details of the route length. The Frankfurt Police Department will close off the streets used by TNS skaters for the tour and will work with TNS volunteer skater overseers to ensure that the tour runs smoothly.
The TNS tours are ridden at a brisk pace. Safe riding and braking techniques are expected from all participants, full protective gear incl. helmet as well as reflective hazard lights are essential.
On some Tuesdays, more than 3,000 skaters are out and about in downtown Frankfurt - not only from Frankfurt, but also from the surrounding area and further afield. This weekly skater event, which has been the biggest in Germany for years, is made possible by a cooperation of the Frankfurt Sports Office (organizer) with the police and the Public Order Office of the City of Frankfurt as well as the numerous skater organizers of the Tuesday Night Skaters around organizer Dirk May.
Thanks are also due to the tolerant Frankfurt motorists who always give way to the long train of Tuesday Night Skaters at intersections.
