UNCENSORED. ANNEGRET SOLTAU - A RETROSPECTIVE
08. May - 17 August 2025 | Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main

Radical, powerful, fearless: With the first comprehensive retrospective, the Städel Museum honours the work of feminist artist Annegret Soltau (*1946). The exhibition UNZENSIERT shows over 80 works from five decades - from early drawings to experimental photography, video works and installations. At the centre: the female body as a vehicle for political expression and the self-determined self.

Soltau's works address motherhood, corporeality, identity and transience - and in doing so go beyond aesthetic and social conventions. With her innovative technique of photographic stitching, she has created her own artistic vocabulary. Numerous loans from international museums as well as previously unpublished works from the studio provide a deep insight into Soltau's significant oeuvre.
