Born in 1962, pianist Uwe Oberg plays at the interface between jazz and new improvised music. He has been active in numerous contexts since the 1980s, spanning free improvisation to his own compositions and the music of Monk.
With the international quartet Rope, it's free improvisation, Lacy Pool is devoted primarily to Steve Lacy's compositions, and in duo with Silke Eberhard he plays music linked to Paul Bley as well as his own pieces. As a soloist, Oberg focuses on free playing with mostly his own pieces. Whatever material he plays, he transforms it all into his unmistakable, dazzling sound language that knows no stylistic boundaries.
Recently, he released the CD Work. Piano Solo (HatHut, 2015).
