Learn more about the stories and legends surrounding vampires, werewolves and sinister creatures that wreak havoc in nighttime cemeteries on our guided tour of Frankfurt's main cemetery. Despite the daylight, goosebumps guaranteed! The cemetery is at all times a place not only for mourning the departed loved ones, but also a place of terror that evokes trepidation. Often it is the fear of dying or it is wild fantasies that cause this discomfort. We have all been familiar with haunted ghosts, ghostly figures, tree spirits, and evil monsters since childhood, but in conjunction with a cemetery, these ideas are often sheer horror! Most of us would never walk through a cemetery in the dark or be told scary stories there. The fear of dying and death is a component known and embedded in all cultures, especially in times of war or plague. The fear of being declared seemingly dead and buried alive has spawned many a clever invention: trumpets of death, funeral bells, or coffins that can be unlocked from the inside. Even in modern times, there is technically nothing that cannot be built into a coffin, such as the Internet or the telephone. The fear of death characterizes an entire literary epoch, that of the 19th century. Many classics of world literature were written only out of these horrors and nightmares: "Dracula" by Bram Stocker or even "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe. Even in modern times, one character delights millions of fans: the modern vampire Eduard Cullen from the novels of Stephenie Meyers. Learn more about the stories and legends surrounding vampires, werewolves and sinister creatures that wreak havoc in cemeteries on this guided tour of Frankfurt's main cemetery. The tour will explore how other cultures and religions, for example, deal with death and the spectres. Please note: The tour will take place at different locations in the cemetery, depending on the tour, these locations will be varied. This tour places special emphasis on reverent treatment of death, the deceased, and the gravesites and mausoleums visited. Please bring a flashlight, even in winter, if the tour takes place after 3 p.m. Meet at the main entrance to the Mourning Hall.
