Max Reger, whose 100th death anniversary will be marked in 2016, is one of the well-known unknowns in music history. He and his music are often said to be excessive - yet, like his great role model Bach, he also wrote works for single instruments that are quite something. In contrast to Reger's sonata for viola solo, we hear a string quartet movement by Anton Webern. Does this contemporary of Reger really compose differently, or does it only seem that way? The Quatuor Voce, guests at the Chamber Concerts for the second time after 2012, answers this question in the context of two magnificent quintets in which Lise Berthaud complements the quartet founded in Paris in 2004. The musicians have won prestigious prizes, most recently the "Premio Borciani" in Reggio Emilia, and were included in the Rising Stars series of major European concert halls in 2013.
