Rapper and feminist Rebeca Lane already thrilled the audience at Brotfabrik twice in the past years. Now the multi-talented rapper, born as Rebeca Eunice Vargas in Guatemala City in 1984, returns to Frankfurt with support from fellow rappers Audry Funk from Mexico and Nakury from Costa Rica. "Somos Guerreras!" - "We are warriors" is the motto of the joint tour, which starts here and will also take the trio to renowned festivals in Rudolfstadt, Munich (Theatron Open Air) and Jena (Kulturarena).
"In hip-hop, women in Central America are overshadowed by men. We want to change that and draw attention to the precarious situation of women in general," comments Rebeca Lane on the "Warrior Women" bandwagon. "Feminism and the fight for women's rights are the central themes for me, because being a woman in Central America means living in a permanent war." Their weapons: self-confident, melodic rap - after all, they are among the tone-setting female rappers in the Spanish-speaking world, known for intelligent lyrics and committed action. After all, the three work as social workers, among other things, and are thus committed to the rights of children, women and the indigenous population.
