Having already entertained 100.000 fans with acoustic versions of his greatest hits, Marius Müller-Westernhagen is going on a big "MTV Unplugged Tour" again in 2018!
Many years ago, Marius Müller-Westernhagen was the first German artist to be offered by the music channel MTV to perform in the "Unplugged" format. At the time he declined, there was so much else to do. But last August the timing couldn't have been better and he finally accepted the invitation to play without a plug. Sitting down, with guests and acoustic instruments, the rock musician recorded two concerts for "MTV Unplugged" at Berlin's Volksbühne and surprised everyone with a very personal, stripped-down show. The result was released on October 28th by Virgin Records (A Division of Universal Music) as a live album on CD as well as a concert film on DVD/BluRay, cinematically staged by none other than the multiple award-winning director Fatih Akin ("Gegen die Wand", "Soul Kitchen", "Tschick"). Direct entry at No. 2 in the German album charts followed, as well as open air and arena shows in 2017!
"We saw 'Unplugged' as an artistic challenge," Marius Müller-Westernhagen says of the show. "We didn't want to just strap on acoustic guitars and play down the original arrangements as a disguised best of. It was a matter of sifting through the material from over four decades of my work as a songwriter and completely reworking it with exclusively analog means. We had the ambition to bring it for us as well as for the audience to the current state of our understanding of good music."
