Whiskey Shivers are a band with great talented and very different musicians, who are already a bit different from the traditional bluegrass world. In that they are very much like their "labelmates" from The Dead South, with whom they toured the US in the fall of 2019. The Washington Post describes them as "apocalyptic Americana" and NPR calls their music "frenetic bluegrass with a punk spirit" and both pretty much nail it. Following the bluegrass tradition, the band's first albums still featured quite a few covers of some classics in their somewhat atypical bluegrass guise. On the new, fifth (!) album "Some Part of Something" the band finally feels more and more comfortable with their own songs and so the covers are rather the exceptions, although they just love them as you can hear on 'Friday I'm In Love' (The Cure) and 'True Love (Will Find You In The End)' (Daniel Johnston). Of course, the Whiskey Shivers are also primarily about their live shows - barefoot, sleeveless and sweaty is not the only thing about singer and fiddle master Bobby Fitzgerald, who can rarely play without a smile. "All right! Let's kick this thing in the face!" he barks when the band starts playing their string instruments at breathtaking speed - it may sound a bit cliché, but by the second song at the latest you can't get rid of your own smile. Of course, a band like this furz- (sorry)doesn't care if they're playing in the garden at a BBQ, in a punk rock shed or at a music festival.
