Wizard Promotions & Deaf Forever presents: Windhand Just recently they successfully finished their last tour in this country, Windhand from Richmond/Virginia announce another flying visit to Germany. The doom metal band has just confirmed an exclusive club show on August 2, 2019 in Frankfurt at Das Bett, with in their luggage of course the latest album "Eternal Return" (Relapse/Rough Trade), released on October 2, 2018. In addition to the gig in Frankfurt in August, the quintet around frontwoman Dorthia Cottrell will also perform at Wacken Open Air and Summer Breeze Festival 2019. Windhand were only formed in 2009, but with their three albums released so far, they rank among the most hopeful newcomers of the doom metal scene. Already in 2010 they make high waves with a rehearsal demo on which there are just two songs! Comparisons are immediately drawn, names like Electric Wizard, The Devil's Blood and, how could it be otherwise, of course Black Sabbath. Consequently, in March 2012, their self-titled debut becomes an underground hit, with vinyl pressings selling out within months. A year later, Windhand sign with Relapse Records. They go on tour, later releasing a split single called "Reflection Of The Negative" in April 2013 with Cough, a friendly band from their hometown of Richmond.

The reviews are universally positive, with 'Pitchfork' magazine calling it Windhand's "best music to date". With confidence they approach the eagerly awaited sophomore album, "Soma" is released in September 2013. In 'Stereogum', 'Spin' and 'LA Weekly' the album makes it into the best-of lists, also the metal press in the form of 'Revolver', 'Invisible Oranges', 'MetalSucks' and 'Metal Injection' is gushing, even in 'Rolling Stone', 'NPR ' and 'Pitchfork' "Soma" gets good reviews. Headlining tours of North America, Europe and Australia follow, with bands such as Sleep, High On Fire, Dead Meadow and Kvelertak. Windhand also feature prominently at major festivals, playing 'Roadburn', 'SXSW', 'Scion Rock Fest', 'Day Of The Shred' and 'Maryland Deathfest'.

In October 2014, another split single with Swedes Salem's Pot is released on Riding Easy Records. Then, in September 2015, Windhand reap the fruits of their previous labor with their third opus, "Grief's Infernal Flower": produced by mixing desk legend Jack Endino (Nirvana, High On Fire, Soundgarden, etc.). Especially frontwoman Dorthia Cottrell establishes herself with the performance on this album as one of the best singers of the genre. Behind that, however, neither the twin guitars of Garrett Morris and Asechiah Bogdan with their mega riffs nor the colossal rhythm section of bassist Parker Chandler and drummer Ryan Wolfe have to hide.

Even when guitarist Bogdan leaves the band in 2018, they don't let it get them down. They underpin their status with their fourth album, "Eternal Return", released in October 2018 and also recorded again by legendary producer Jack Endino at Soundhouse Recordings in Seattle. Windhand have reinvented themselves in the process, adding other stylings from other rock genres to their heavy Black Sabbath and Sleep branded sound, among others early Soundgarden, but also Veruca Salt could be mentioned as influences. With "Eternal Return" Windhand make the famous step forward and will soon be able to compete with the greats of the scene.
