Franz Schubert Die Winterreise for soprano and hurdy-gurdy
Three-course dinner and concert at the Apfelweinlokal including. Conversation with the artists of the evening
Moderation: Hans-Jürgen Linke
The venerable "Winterreise" at the Apfelweinlokal? For Schubert, at least, body and soul were an inseparable entity, and the inn one of his favorite places to stay. Among friends, of course - and many a musical idea may have occurred to him while he was enjoying food and drink. This is why the Alte Oper music festival is leaving the temple of the muses and entering the real world: Nataša Mirkovic and Matthias Loibner bring a completely grounded version of "Winterreise" to the traditional cider tavern "Daheim im Lorsbacher Thal", which is, however, no less touching and profound. In "Winterreise", the hurdy-gurdy, the instrument of suburban dance and everyday culture in the Vienna of Schubert's time, becomes a symbol of the wanderer's final journey to his eternal resting place and, in Matthias Loibner's interpretation of the cycle, the protagonist. She immerses Schubert's songs in a surprisingly clear light and illuminates them as poetically as she does unsparingly and honestly. A "Winterreise" that brings the essentials to the listener's ears.
