If music has the power to express human pain and comfort at the same time at the moment of sounding, that ability comes to Peter Tchaikovsky's last symphony of 1893.
It is called, with his approval, "Pathétique" and it stirs the emotions.
Tchaikovsky died ten days after the premiere.
One discovers the gesture of a requiem, somber and wistful passages. The ending breathes peace.
Patrick Lange makes his debut as music director in a symphony concert with this program, which features an exciting musical encounter of past and present.
He will be joined as soloist by the young violinist Tobias Feldmann, prize-winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition Brussels.
Born in Hesse, Feldmann earned the prize of the German Music Competition in 2012 and is supported by the German Foundation for Musical Life.
Tobias Feldmann has performed as a soloist with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and the Utah Symphony Orchestra, among others.
