Confidence, joy and peaceful calm accompany the pre-Christmas season.
The optimistic mood is reflected in the beauty of the music of the Classical period and in the artistic ideal of the "Pastoral". Nature contemplations and rural scenes are the starting point for Ludwig van Beethoven's 6th. Symphony and Witold Lutosławski's "Little Suite". The excursion into the countryside that Beethoven describes in his "Pastoral" he often undertook himself.
Flutes, oboe, light string movements attest to man's connection with nature; in the thunderstorm passage, the timpani beats make him tremble with their power. Lutosławski's "Mała suita" from 1951 takes us straight to rural Poland, picking up melodies of the Polish shepherd's flute, polar rhythms and folk songs. Joseph Haydn joins Beethoven as another central representative of Viennese classical music. In Haydn's Concerto in C major, the cello breaks the boundary between late-baroque, courtly austerity and passionate, free, almost modern virtuosity. The demanding soloist part in the Cello Concerto is taken by Maximilian Hornung.
The multiple ECHO Klassik prize winner has recorded the work on CD with the Kammerakademie Potsdam. On the podium is Johannes Klumpp, an outstanding conductor and passionate music educator, since 2012 chief conductor of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen and since 2013 artistic director of the Summer Music Academy Schloss Hundisburg.
