Witch Hillary won two tickets for the opera on the radio. But - what is opera? She looks it up in her standard reference book, "The Little Witch from A to Zett", and learns: "Opera is theater where everyone sings." She believes there is a singing curse she wants to learn, so she conjures up the singer and witch Maria Bellacanta.
