As "wish child of grunge and folk" the Clash Magazine calls Wolf Alice. The London quartet around singer Ellie Rowsell understands itself accordingly not only with the band name, a reference to a short story of the British writer Angela Carter, on united contradictions. Musically, Rowsell treads the exciting field between Garbage, Hole and Cat Power with Joel Amey, Joff Oddie and Theo Ellis.

The band forms in 2010, with Rowsell and Joff Oddie releasing a self-titled acoustic EP as a duo later that year. In 2012, Amey and Ellis join as a drummer and a bassist. Stylistically, the Londoners change from folky pop to rockier elements. The following year sees the release of "Fluffy", the first regular Wolf Alice single on Indie Chess Club.

At the latest with the "Creature Songs" EP on Dirty Hit in spring 2014, the four then know not only the trend scouts of BBC Radio 1 and NME behind them. And by the end of 2013 Wolf Alice are already the most blogged about act in the UK. In 2015, they're touring in support of indie darlings alt-J.

"We want to see our audience jump around and give them a good time", says bandleader Rowsell. "We all went to rock gigs when we were young, and it just feels so good when people do the same to our music now."

The Londoners release their debut record, "My Love Is Cool", that same year. It surprisingly climbs to second place in the British charts. Their song "Moaning Lisa Smile" is even nominated for a Grammy as best rock performance. The Michael Winterbottom-directed tour documentary "On The Road" is released in 2016, and their song "Silk" is heard in the credits of "T2: Trainspotting" in 2017.

With their second album "Visions Of A Life" (2017), the band focuses more on psychedelic and noisy sounds. Their non-conformity and energy seems to be catching on in the British Isles. The album shoots back to second position in their homeland. Just over half a decade into their existence, the band have thus established themselves in the pop business.
