As every year, the Railway World Days take place on the grounds of the Railway Museum Darmstadt-Kranichstein. There is again a great program with many demonstrations, exhibitions and attractions for young and old around the railway waiting for you!
With shuttle trains from Darmstadt Hbf you get quickly and without parking worries to the event site. (The shuttle trains from Dieburg and Groß-Gerau are cancelled this year.)
The two steam locomotives 23 042 and ELNA "184 DME" will be demonstrated next to various small diesel locomotives and you can even ride in the cab for a while.
New this year: the collection of uniforms and service clothing is to be presented attractively and, above all, lively in the form of a small parade on the turntable. As many "peripheral areas" of the railway as possible, which otherwise run the risk of being overlooked, will be deliberately shown, such as the uniforms of the railway post office, railway police, railway ferry traffic, railway mission, railway fire brigade, railway music and others. The time frame ranges from Darmstadt's first contact with the railway in 1846 to the end of the state railway principle in Germany in 1993, several different uniforms of the Länderbahn era, DRG, DR, post-war period, DR (GDR) and DB. The parade takes place on Thursday, 10.05. and Saturday, 12.05. at 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16 o'clock.
For the small guests the 5" children's railway runs again and the children's land with new bouncy castle, ball pool and roller track invites you to play. You can also take part in a small railway rally and get a surprise on the MobaTrain. Have fun!
The barbecue stand in the engine shed and the cafeteria in the museum building will provide you with plenty of food and drinks. For refreshment in between, the ice cream man will also be on the premises with his wagon!
