Probably London shoemaker Ab Salomons himself had no idea what he was instigating when he scribbled a small picture on his pay packet in 1926: a loving note to his wife Celie. This quickly became a tradition, producing increasingly complex images somewhere between quick sketch and precise caricature. Week after week, a new work emerged reflecting their life together, throughout their marriage. With wit, warmth and surprising honesty, these images portray a family life with all its ups and downs. In his solo show "Wot! No Fish!!!", gifted performer Danny Braverman tells the moving story of his great-uncle Ab and his art. Of war and deprivation, social advancement and the, in our eyes, unbearable situation in which people with disabilities had to live in the post-war period. So an everyday working-class life suddenly becomes exemplary - and a moving plea for love. Voted one of the ten best productions of 2014 by Guardian critic Lyn Gardner, the evening also won Danny Braverman the Brian Way Playwriting Award. After its triumphant tour of the world, which has taken it from the Edinburgh Fringe through the USA, to Greece, Denmark, Luxembourg and Australia, "Whot? No Fish??" is now finally coming to Germany at the invitation of Grenzenlos Kultur.
