Yawning Man are possibly the biggest unknown stoner band in the world. Since the mid-80s around, they release in current line-up with Alfredo Hernandez (Ex-Kyuss, Ex-QOTSA) on drums, Mario Lalli (Fatso Jeston, Orquesta del D.,) on bass and Gary Arce (Sort of Quartet, Oddio Gasser) on guitar only selectly hung stoner rock with the warm desert wind blowing through their hair. Kyuss once covered their song "Catamaran". You could use Brant Bjork's "Jalamanta" as a reference, although Yawning Man ultimately inspired Bjork - for him they are "the best live band" ever anyway. And their latest album also reveals something like the essence of desert rock without having to turn the distortion up too far. Hernandez offers a massive drumbeat backbone, the melodic guitar twangs somewhere between Pulp Fiction and Neil Young.
