JUNGE DEUTSCHE PHILHARMONIE JONATHAN NOTT Conductor MICHELLE BREEDT Mezzo-soprano MAURICE RAVEL Valses nobles et sentimentales GUSTAV MAHLER Kindertotenlieder DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony no. 15 in A major, op. 141 "Often I think they have only gone out! Soon they'll get home again!" - moving lines, as they describe the desperate attempt to once again evoke the image of an ideal world, when an idyll has long since been destroyed, a happiness shattered. It is only one of 423 poems that Friedrich Rückert wrote in a great creative frenzy after the loss of his two daughters. With his setting of five of these poems, Gustav Mahler composed a no less touching dirge of infinite depth, a shattering requiem that wants to remember the deceased children forever. Memory is also at the forefront of Shostakovich's 15th Symphony: As a tribute to memory and its precious treasures, Shostakovich populated his work with many musical quotations, giving it the character of a life chronicle. The fact that this musical work of remembrance is performed by a youthful orchestra like the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, of all orchestras, proves to be a particularly fine testimony to the way the future deals with the past. With the kind support of the Gesellschaft der Freunde der Alten Oper Frankfurt.
