"It's only our way... or the highway". This saying doesn't just sound good. It fits like a glove when it comes to ZiBBZ. The brother and sister duo Coco and Stee Gfeller have been consistently and unwaveringly going their way on the "rock'n'roll road" for years. Pandering, boring pop songs? - No way. Disillusioned, depressed lyrics? - Likewise. Sprawling, life-affirming melodies and rhythms? - But so what!
September 1, 2017 marks the release of their sophomore album, "It takes a village". And it shows ZiBBZ in top form. Influenced by living in two different worlds, the duo shuttles back and forth between LA and Switzerland, the record has what most others lack - international stature. The beat creaks, the synths purr, the guitars rumble and everything else that belongs to indecently lively music. Coco proves once again her exceptional position as a singer and puts her stamp on the songs. It's this uncompromisingness that makes an impression and that's probably why it's so wonderfully in tune with the spirit of the times. Rarely has a Swiss combo been so convinced of its style, so consciously implemented its vision and accordingly set more than one scent mark. So the decision to take "It takes a village" into their own hands was obvious.
Stee produced, recorded and finished it themselves. Also the label work as well as promotion is done in-house respectively with personally involved partners. The new album is just burning to cause a furore on the live stages of this world, to roll over the audience and to shoot a cheeky "we actually only do what we want and feel" after all that. Although the two of them are not yet 60 years old together, they are "old and experienced hares" in the business and accordingly know how it goes (well, the hare of course...). As typical representatives of the "generation Y", the ZiBBZ have chosen a life without conventions. They do what is fun. Self-realization is the very highest maxim and a soft spot/interest for everything that brings further is the premise.
A good example for this is the "OnetakeMonday"-action, which the two release every Monday until the album release. Here ZiBBZ songs and also some cover songs are interpreted in their very own way. The song "Undone" for example reminds of a vegetable/fruit salad, because these foods are electrified and used as instruments. Not to forget the kettle grill... the version reached within a few days easily over 500'000 views on Facebook. And it becomes more and more. There are still a few more until September...
Long story short - with "It takes a village" ZiBBZ release an album that can and will compete with any other release. One hit chases the other, one melody touches more than the previous one. It is pure emotionality that is lived here. No put on platitudes, but joy of being in pure culture. Artistic self-realization as the ultimate credo and above all a mischievous lightness that tempts you to float. Floating in your own dreams, visions and ideals. Heart, what more do you want? - Actually, just the new album of ZiBBZ.
