Music Theatre by Anselm Dalferth, Ina Karr, Birgit Kellner, Johannes Stange and Joss Turnbull
In the beginning there is a circle and two friends. One plays the trumpet, the other the tombac. One needs lips and breath to play. The other needs hands and fingers.
Together, the two play with their instruments, listen to what the other is playing, and make up some music together. But not just with their own instruments: anything can become sounds and anything can be played with. Because breathing, blowing, flicking, clapping and slapping the palms of your hands also works on the floor, on your body or in the air.
Suddenly there is a line that divides the circle into two sides. And suddenly the question arises: are there now two halves? Which is now mine and which is yours? Sometimes it is not so easy to play together. Because everybody has his own ideas and also his own music. And there are different ways of making music together: side by side, with each other, together and alone - just two of each other.
Musicians Johannes Stange (trumpet) and Joss Turnbull (tombac) invented the music for this instrumental theatre through constantly evolving improvisation and during rehearsals. This resulted in a composition for trumpet, tombac, hands, feet and truck tarpaulin.
