Construction site art in the Nordend

Category: More

For several months now, nothing has been going on in the lower part of Eckenheimer Landstraße between Musterschule and Glauburgstraße. Due to the reconstruction of two stops of the line U5, large parts of the Eckenheimer are completely closed in this area and excavators, cranes and torn up asphalt determine the picture here. As a direct resident, I can confirm that the noise, dirt and traffic have so far not been quite as catastrophic as was feared in advance. Nevertheless, the large construction site is no pleasure and is definitely a hindrance, under which the shops and restaurants located here are increasingly suffering. But instead of just grumbling, an initiative has now been formed under the motto OUR CONSTRUCTION SITE SHOULD BE BEAUTIFUL to provide a colourful, playful counterpoint worth seeing to torn-up asphalt, building rubble and containers.

So large-format paintings by various artists have been attached to some of the construction containers. These include co-initiators Rawa Amin and Sylvain Mérot, but also Philipp Waechter, Moni Port, Rüdiger von Selzam, Jörg Harraschain, Tim Wegner and Gioacchino dell Erba. The action was supported not only by the RMV, but also by numerous adjacent businesses such as the Antiquariat Orban & Streu, the Cafuchico, the Pizzaria da Peppe, Bettina`s Gemüseladen, the Weinstube or also Bizzi Ice. The message of the campaign is quite clear: A visit to this section of Eckenheimer Landstraße is worthwhile even during the major construction site. Take a look at the large-format pictures and then drop by the many small shops before treating yourself to a break with Brazilian delicacies, pizza, ice cream or one of the numerous other gastronomic offerings here.

The motto of this art campaign was achieved not only through the paintings, but also through the positive attitude of everyone involved. And if this actually motivates some people to stop by on Eckenheimer and support the shops and restaurants here, despite the difficulty of getting there, then that would be a great side effect! The pictures on the containers can be seen until the end of the construction work at the end of August.
