10. December 2012 - Winery Peter Lauer strengthens the Great Ring of the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
From January 2013, the Peter Lauer Winery from Ayl an der Saar will join the Great Ring of the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. With the 14th new addition to the Great Ring since 1990, the number of members in the VDP Mosel-Saar- Ruwer rises to 33 Prädikatsweingüter.
After studying enology at the Ecole Nationale in Montpellier/France, Florian Lauer began to take responsibility in his family winery, which has existed since 1830, in 2005. Right in his second vintage, he was awarded by the Gault Millau WeinGuide for the best feinherben Riesling in Germany. A multitude of further awards followed. The many years of continuity at a very high level was then also the reason most mentioned by colleagues for the admission to the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates.
The Peter Lauer wine estate has the best steep slopes on the Saar, which are exclusively planted with Riesling. Some plots have particularly old vines of up to 100 years. Florian Lauer's specialties are fine and dry top Rieslings with a moderate alcohol content. In doing so, he relies on near-natural wine production. The wines are fermented spontaneously with their natural wild yeasts.
At the ProWein 2013 in March in Düsseldorf, Florian Lauer will present his collection for the first time in the ranks of the Prädi- katsweingüter.
With the winery Peter Lauer, 198 Prädikatsweingüter are now members of the VDP. For comparison: In 1990, the VDP's list of members counted a total of 161 wineries. Since then, 78 wineries have left the association and 115 have joined the ranks of the top wineries. Numbers that show that the VDP is not a 'closed shop', but an association that is always open to talented and quality-oriented newcomers while maintaining a consistent quality philosophy.
