Opening of the special exhibition "The Apple. Culture with a Stalk

Category: More

From April 12, the open-air museum Hessenpark will host the large special exhibition "The Apple. Culture with a Stalk" will be on display. The apple is known to be the favourite fruit of the Hessians. But where does the apple actually come from? How is it grown? How is it harvested and marketed today? The new special exhibition presents not only the ecological and economic aspects, but above all the cultural aspects of the apple. The development from the cultivation of the orchard as an agricultural sideline to industrial processing is just as much a topic as the living and working conditions of the seasonal workers who come back to the growing regions every year for the harvest. Numerous film and audio stations invite visitors to take a look behind the scenes of modern apple growing. Regional aspects are not neglected in the exhibition: visitors learn more about the importance of local orchards, cider production and the associated pub culture. Accompanying the exhibition, there will be hands-on activities for children, public guided tours, events and a special culinary offer around the topic throughout the season.

The exhibition "The Apple. Culture with a Stalk" was created as part of the exhibition network "Work and Life" and will be shown at a total of four locations in Germany.

For the supervision of this special exhibition from 12 April to 29 November 2015 in the stable barn from Asterode, we are looking for volunteer help. Are you interested in looking after this exhibition in the open-air museum and helping visitors with words and deeds? Then please contact us at ehrenamt@hessenpark.de or phone 06081 588-109. We look forward to seeing you!
