The Young Museum completes the Museum Quarter

The Young Museum completes the Museum Quarter

Category: Museums & Art

After about ten years at the Hauptwache, the Children's Museum has returned to the Historical Museum under a new name. In new, larger premises, it now invites visitors to discover and participate as the Junges Museum Frankfurt. This completes the museum quarter created in ten years of planning, renovation and new construction, and the Historical Museum has become a lively cultural venue for the whole family. In the future, a large orange M with * will guide visitors to the rooms of the Junges Museum, which will have both familiar and new things to offer.

The change of name from Children's Museum to Young Museum was made so that not only children, but all young people feel addressed. After all, there are not only great things on offer here for the little ones, but also for young people. These include, of course, the historical playrooms on level 3. The newly built 19th century chemist's shop and the colonial goods shop invite visitors to take a playful journey into the past. There is also a lot to discover in the great-grandparents' kitchen, and not just for young visitors. In addition to an area for children's birthday parties, this level of the museum also houses workshops such as the painting studio, a computer laboratory and the radio workshop. Here, as well as in the other workshops in the vault on level 0 (printing workshop, paper workshop, research laboratory), workshops and special events for children and young people are held regularly.

A new area is located on level 2, where space has been created for future special shows, which will be heralded by a review of the 45-year history of the Children's Museum. Whether special or permanent exhibition and workshops: All offers are designed in such a way that they really appeal to all children and young people. Regardless of whether they prefer to romp or quietly explore, whether they prefer to consume or try things out, whether they want to give free rein to their creativity or simply playfully discover the museum - there is something here for everyone. Of course, the Young Museum pursues an educational mission, but it also doesn't let the fun come off badly. And that is exactly why the concept works so well.

Museum director Susanne Gesser and her small, very dedicated team have created a really nice place for young people. For parents, too, there is plenty to discover here that makes the visit worthwhile. With the new offers of the Historical Museum, the Young Museum enters into a harmonious symbiosis, so that a great, educational and exciting family outing is guaranteed. But even for visitors without children, it is worthwhile to take a look at the rooms of the Young Museum when visiting the Historical Museum, because quite a few childhood memories are awakened here - and that's just nice too, isn't it?
