Family-friendly music festivals in Frankfurt and the surrounding area

From spring to autumn, there are many great open-air events in the Rhine-Main region and surrounding areas of Hesse. Some of them may not necessarily be suitable for a family outing, but others aim with their offer that parents can also come with their children and experience carefree fun. We have put together a few events that are perfect for you to finally experience a great festival feeling with the whole family again in 2022.

Festival4Family

April 30-May 1, 2022

After the Corona break, the great festival for families returns in 2022 with a great lineup. For this, the Festival4Family moves from the Deutsche Bank Park Frankfurt to the Messepark at the water tower in Hochheim. From 30 April to 01 May 2022, there will be live music, a Ferris wheel, a bouncy castle world, a football camp, a trapeze workshop, a mascot parade and many other great attractions for young and old. Open Ohr Festival

No fixed date yet for 2022

Every Whitsun since 1975, the youth culture festival with discussion forums, workshops, cabaret and live concerts as well as tent camps takes place at the Zitadelle Mainz. The programme is not only aimed at young people, but also at children and adults! After the livestream edition in 2021, it will hopefully continue again as an in-person event in 2022.

Open Flair

10th - 14th Aug.2022

The Open Flair, a multi-day open air music festival in Eschwege, is also well suited for families due to its colorful supporting program of cabaret, children's program, performances and other offerings. Since 1985, the festival, which is attended by up to 20,000 people, has been organized on a voluntary basis by the Arbeitskreis Open Flair e.V. in Eschwege. In 2022, it is scheduled to take place from August 10 - 14.

Herzberg Festival

28th - 30th July.2022

The colorful hippie festival at the Herzberg Castle in Breitenbach also attracts families year after year with its very special friendly atmosphere. Accordingly, there are also great offers for children, but also at the other live program or camping together. The next Herzberg Festival will take place from 28.07. - 31.07.2022.

Summer Wharf Theatre Festival

No date yet for 2022

The international performance, dance and theatre festival on the banks of the River Main in Frankfurt also offers something for children, especially at the weekends, making a family outing to the Wesel shipyard a very special experience. It is important to the festival organizers that everyone feels comfortable and that tolerance, respect and solidarity are lived out on the festival grounds. The next Sommerwerft is expected to take place again in July/August 2022 during the Hessian summer holidays.

Stoffel - Theater Offen Luft Festival

Hopefully, the Stalburg Theater's Open Air Theater Festival can return to Guenthersburg Park in 2022 as usual. Then numerous families and friends will certainly meet here again to enjoy live music, cabaret or the children's programme in a cheerful mood in a beautiful park atmosphere. Let's hope that after the two Stoffel-free summers (although in 2021 at least a small Guerilla-Stoffel could take place) 2022 this beautiful festival can take place again.

Schlossgrabenfest Darmstadt

02. - 06.06.2022

The largest music festival in Hesse attracts thousands of people every year to the grounds around the Residenzschloss and the Friedens- and Karolinenplatz in Darmstadt. The festival can score points not only with numerous music greats, but also with a great accompanying offer, which includes a large children's program with free games and fun attractions, charity activities for children and youth organizations, numerous food trucks and much more. The next Castle Moat Festival is scheduled to take place from 2-6/6/2022 - then over 5 days instead of just 4!

Hessentag

10 - 19.06.2022

Year after year, Hessentag showcases Hesse's cities and towns during a colorful week of festivities. The next Hessentag will take place in Haiger in 2022 from June 10 - 19. In addition to numerous exhibitors from the city and the region, various culinary offerings and a top-class live cultural program, there will again be special offers for children and families. A family trip to the Hessentag can therefore already be planned.

Frankfurter Dippemess

Frankfurt's oldest fair attracts visitors not only with rides specially designed for children, but also with children's and family days, where you can save a lot of money thanks to reduced prices. The Dippemess takes place twice a year - once in spring and once in autumn.

Hochheimer Markt

The Hochheimer Markt is one of the largest fairs in Germany and one of the most popular traditional events in the region. It offers a diverse range of sales, events and attractive leisure activities for the whole family. After the Corona-related cancellation in 2020 and 2021, the organisers hope that the market will be able to return to its traditional and full schedule in autumn 2022.
