Dragging on new ones again, my friend's husband just rolls his eyes in annoyance or sighs audibly, loudly and reproachfully, depending on his mood. Over the years there have been about 50 of them, as she told me last weekend, but her husband has meanwhile got used to the many rivals. They come from everywhere and are on almost every corner. They don't become less, but more every season, in all colours and shapes: black, white, plain or coloured, some bigger, others rather tiny. Of course, my friend is a loyal soul, but when it comes to her love of shoes, everyone has to share it. Whether it's slingbacks, folk sandals or pink swim flip-flops, you can find it all on her.
In Frankfurt, she knows the best corners, but she also never spurns a visit to Galeria Kaufhof. Result: we both recently left the store all-round happy, but a lot poorer. The department store at the Hauptwache has upgraded its footwear: the popular models by Peter Kaiser can now be found there as well as top trends by Calvin Klein.
When I'm not browsing for shoes online, my favourite place in Frankfurt is Görtz. The store across from Hugendubel is, after financial difficulties, getting more and more back to the core competencies of retail and enchanted me the other day with its patient advice. But that's not all: the white leather loungers with skyline view in the in-house café are always worth a visit.
And if all else fails and we're already quite desperate, then it's always worth taking a look around the corner: Linda's Schuhsalon offers extravagantly chic things for women who can never get enough
