Marion is twelve years old when she flees with her parents from East Berlin across the Hungarian "green border" to the West in 1989. She has hardly come to terms with her new life in a container camp when the Wall opens on 9 November: East and West Berlin belong together again. Together with old friends from the East and new ones from the West, Marion discovers the business of small, colorful chunks of concrete hammered out of the Wall.

Together with her friends, the ten-year-old plans to beam back her great role model, and this is supposed to happen on November 9. But then the children see on TV what they have really done with their experiment...
