Content: Jean-Claude (Dirk Roofthooft) must go! Eva (Barbara Sarafian), Birgit (Ruth Becquart), Rebekka (Maaike Neuville) and Goedele (Inge Paulussen) agree on this. Each of the women has a very personal reason for wanting to see the creep underground. But the way he treats their sister Veerle (Kristine Van Pellicom) in particular, who for some inexplicable reason is married to the man, makes it an absolute necessity for the Goethal sisters to get Jean-Claude around the corner. But this turns out to be more difficult than they thought. However, one day Jean-Claude is dead. But that's where the problems really begin: Was it an accident or did someone kill him? And if so, who? The death calls the brothers Mathias (Geert van Rampelberg) and Thomas Dewitt (Robbie Cleiran) on the plan, with which Jean-Claude had taken out his life insurance. If they had to pay it out now, they would be financially finished. And the brothers want to prevent that at all costs - especially since there is clearly something fishy about this case...

Clan is a ten-part mini-series from Belgium that traces many desperate attempts by four women to get their sister's nasty husband around the corner in a wonderfully black humorous way. Starting with the funeral of the unloved Jean-Claude, each of the episodes shows one of the failed attempts in flashbacks, in which the sisters definitely reveal great creativity. At the same time, another storyline shows how desperately the brothers Mathias and Thomas try to find out how Jean-Claude really died. And they have to go all out to do it, too, and not just rely on conventional methods.

Jean-Claude is a character who is really fun to hate. He's so abysmally mean and conniving that as a viewer, you really look forward to finding out what he'll come up with next to bully his fellow man. It starts with him constantly calling his wife Mutti and culminates in nasty phone calls and the involuntary death of a cat, which he blames on Veerle in a particularly devious way. But the other, mostly somewhat dysfunctional characters also ensure that the entertainment value of this series is consistently at a very high level.

However, the script and staging always find the right tone, so that the whole thing never drifts into cheap claptrap. The story is told with enough seriousness that you can relate to the sisters' murderous ambitions to a certain extent. Thus, in addition to its humorous overtones, the story also remains suspenseful and engaging throughout, until the truly satisfying resolution. It's not really surprising, but it's absolutely fitting. So if you like it a bit nasty, politically incorrect and a bit macabre, this mini-series with addictive potential can be warmly recommended. Entertainingly staged, wonderfully written and very well acted - for this there can only be one conclusion: Absolutely worth seeing

Image + Sound: The audiovisual realization of the series is on a good to very good TV level. The picture is absolutely clean, the colors coherently mixed and the image sharpness is in bright moments on a very high level. In darker moments, there are slight quality losses in the detail representation, but overall an absolutely positive overall impression prevails. The sound is present in an unspectacular stereo mix, but it does its job more than satisfactorily. Good!

Extras: Except for a few program tips, the DVD box has unfortunately no bonus material to offer. Too bad!

Conclusion:Clan is a wonderfully wicked family series of a different kind. Black humour, biting dialogue and some wonderfully bizarre attempts at murder ensure that the ten episodes fly by. The story is well rounded, so that at the end there is more of a feeling that you have seen a long film, the resolution of which is completely satisfying. The DVD box presents the episodes in good picture and sound quality. Due to the high entertainment value of the series, the lack of bonus material hardly carries any negative weight. Absolutely recommendable!
