Just a few more months, then not only the beautiful view can be enjoyed during a trip to the Feldberg. After 30 months of extensive renovation work, the inn will be reopened and will also be given back its original name: Feldberghaus! This was the first of three inns to open in 1860. The old "Feldberghaus" had to make way for the new telecommunications tower along with another inn in 1937, so that only the "New Feldberghaus", renamed "Feldberghof" in 1931, remained. So now the "Feldberghof" has been thoroughly renovated at a cost of around 3.5 million euros. This is supposed to be just the first step in upgrading the entire plateau. The inn will then get its original name back with the opening scheduled for February 3, 2022: "Feldberghaus"

The new-old name and the complete redesign should not only represent a new beginning, but should also be understood as a tribute to the origins of the former inn culture, to which one wants to tie again. "The Feldberg belongs to Frankfurt RheinMain like a good Binding beer. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to continue our proven cooperation on Frankfurt's local mountain in the middle of the Taunus. After extensive renovation, the new Feldberghaus will present itself as a real highlight for the entire region," said Ulrich Krebs, District Administrator of the Hochtaunuskreis and Chairman of the Zweckverband.

For the architects, it was all about capturing the spirit of the special place so that the new building could form a relationship with its immediate surroundings. So when planning began in 2018, it was also immediately clear to the planning team Michael Müller "Stilbruch United Designers" from Wiesbaden and Andreas Müller "M&P Architekten" from Hünstetten that the redesign and refurbishment had to be based on the buildings of past times and their materials on the Feldberg. "In the execution of the exterior façade, we were inspired by the original design of the façade of the Feldberghaus, but also by the approach of the time. For example, we used building material that could still be used from demolished barns from the neighbouring Reifenberg," explains Michael Müller. The old, new wooden facade is not from the neighboring village, but a 100 percent recycled wood formwork, which now gets the chance of a second life here in the Taunus and for which, above all, no trees had to be felled.

In addition to the wooden façade on a classic quarry stone base, the interiors, which are largely designed in wood, also revisit the "Feldberg tradition". The planning team "Stilbruch - M&P Architekten" has already planned and implemented numerous projects together over the past years. The two offices are and have been active throughout Germany but also internationally such as in Finland, Denmark, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and America. But both say, "it is something very special, if one can contribute to fill "domestic landmarks" with new life".

And so you can soon convince yourself on the Feldberg that this has succeeded the planning team with the "Feldberghaus" really well. Michael Kuchenbecker, Sales Director Gastronomy of the Binding Brewery, which continues to be the tenant of the Feldberghaus and has significantly driven its redesign, is also convinced of this. Our brewery founder, Conrad Binding, had a very simple motto in life: "You must strive tirelessly forward, never tire of standing still, if you want to see perfection. I also wanted to strive forward, to open a new chapter for the inn on the Feldberg and to inspire even more guests to visit it". In addition to the feel-good ambience in the guest rooms and ultra-modern kitchen technology behind the scenes, this will be ensured above all by the food on offer: the menu will offer regional fresh cuisine, supplemented by international influences. Michael Kuchenbecker promises expectantly: "Our Binding will be tapped for this, and I am already looking forward to the first barrel-fresh glass of our Frankfurt original at the opening, which our partners will then pour."

Now Carolin and Jens Fischer are putting together the team and looking for staff, so that from February onwards cyclists, day trippers, hikers, families - in other words: all visitors to the Feldberg will be hospitably entertained and can enjoy contemporary, down-to-earth cuisine with a certain refinement. On the one hand, regional classics such as "Handkäs' mit Musik" (cheese with music) or "Tafelspitz" (boiled beef with green sauce) are planned, on the other hand, favourite dishes from international cuisine such as Italian pasta. Those who want to take the Taunus home with them as a culinary souvenir will find what they are looking for in the "concept store" next door. The concept store, which is embedded in the overall concept, is run by Melanie Küssner's competent and committed team. "Far from tourist kitsch, we will curate a selection of fine, high-quality products that will have a strong connection to the region," she promises. Equally attractive and creative event formats and exciting activities for all generations will be available to book and experience there, she adds.

"With the diverse possibilities of use of the rooms and the outdoor areas as well as the regional reference through the "concept store" and the "wedding room", the Feldberg should unfold its attraction for the Hochtaunus and the Frankfurt area, but also far beyond", Hedmar Schlosser summarizes. We are excited about the opening in spring 2022!
