3rd Hessian Documentary Film Day on September 18, 2022

As part of the 3. HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY on Sunday, September 18, 2022 show eleven Hessian cinemas selected films on this year's motto "Open horizons". All works take a special look at the world and invite you to look beyond your own nose.

Program highlights are, in addition to the already announced special event on the film THE FALL ASSANGE - A CHRONIC, one of the first public screenings of QUERFELDEIN, the new film by Hessian filmmaker Christoph Schuch and the preview of the music film Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm. The filmmakers* are present and give insight into their work.

Directly after the German premiere comes the Hessian director Christoph Schuch with his new film QUERFELDEIN at 14.00 clock in Frankfurt Mal Seh'n cinema. The film follows his own journey: When the first lockdown is loosened, the filmmaker sets off east. He goes from Frankfurt am Main to Frankfurt (Oder). Most of the time on foot, on partly ancient paths, he crosses five states of a country that is slowly recovering from the mildew that has settled over Germany. Some things, like climate change or the open wounds of the landscapes are clear, other things open up more at second glance. He encounters inspiring people, whimsical buildings and a half-dozen rivers, but also the spirit and ghosts of fascism.

In a preview screening, Cem Kaya's AŞK, MARK VE ÖLÜM, will be released nationwide on September 29. The rousing music film celebrates 60 years of music by migrants from Turkey in Germany and was awarded the Audience Award at this year's Berlinale in the Panorama Dokumente category. An alternative post-war history and at the same time a musical best-of, from Yüksel Özkasap to Derdiyoklar to Muhabbet. Director Cem Kaya comes to the audience discussion at 11.45 am at the Marburger Kapitol (an event in cooperation with the Marburger Kamerapreis) and at 5.30 pm to the Caligari FilmBühne in Wiesbaden (an event in cooperation with FBW - Deutsche Film- und Medienbewertung).

Documentaries nationwide

2020 the Federal Association AG DOK celebrated its 40th anniversary. On the occasion of the anniversary, a nationwide documentary film day was launched following the Hessian model. Under the name LETsDOK, a wide variety of events related to documentary film take place from region to region - a total of more than 100 nationwide. The HESSIAN DOCUMENTARY FILM DAY is the Hessian contribution to the country wide action day.
