Film: For two years now Brigitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen) has been Danish Prime Minister. Two years in which she has faced constant hostility from the opposition and had to make many unpleasant decisions. Two years in which her private life has suffered extremely. More and more Brigitte has become estranged from her husband Magnus (Emil Poulsen) and from her children Laura (Freja Riemann) and Philip (Mikael Birkkjaer). But there is no time to mend the frayed family relationship. For an attack on Danish troops in Afghanistan or an attempt to push through an important reform package demand Brigitte's full attention. While the opposition is working on a plan to push for new elections, those around the prime minister are also dealing with very private concerns. For example, Nyborg's political advisor Kasper Juul (Johan Philip Asbaek) is trying to overcome his inability to have a relationship and build a future with reporter Katrine (Brigitte Hjort Sørenson), though his traumatic past keeps getting in the way. And Brigitte's mentor Bent Sejrø (Lars Knutzon) suffers a serious stroke, for which the press blames the prime minister. But despite all these difficult hurdles, Brigitte Nyborg does not let herself be brought to her knees - but her hardest test is still ahead of her...

Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften is once again in its second season a great mix of sophisticated political drama and rousing entertainment, whereby especially in the first episodes the political part of the story is clearly in the foreground. But as the season progresses, the human aspects of the story come more and more to the fore. Brigitte's marital problems, the concern for her daughter or Kasper's coming to terms with the past then become the central themes, which also influence the political work of the protagonists.

The series created by Adam Price captures the viewer even in those moments that could rather be described as factual and dry and thus have little emotionality to offer. But the series then shows them on a different level, where they are conveyed by an ensemble of actors who are excellently cast, right down to the smaller supporting roles. Although the series repeatedly uses classic soap elements such as intrigue, jealousy, love and power games, Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften never feels like a Danish version of Dallas and its ilk. Rather, the creators manage to maintain a certain realism despite all dramaturgical exaggeration, especially with regard to the character drawing, through which the viewer can build a good bond with the characters.

So the series always remains rousing, stirring and exciting. There is also a small pinch of humor and romance, but first and foremost Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften is a really great drama that once again impressively proves that good and sophisticated television is no exception in Europe for a long time. And therefore, in the end, in great anticipation of the third and final season, there is a clear: Absolutely worth watching!

Picture + Sound: Like the first season, the new episodes also show up in decent picture and sound quality. The sharpness of the very clean visuals is at a good level, although there are small points deducted for detail in the darker moments. The audio, which is again in a stereo 2.0 mix, is primarily dominated by the dialogue, which is mixed powerfully and with good intelligibility. The rather subdued score and some atmospheric ambient sounds have been well matched to the voices of the actors (or their voice actors). Good!

Extras: Bonus material has the DVD box unfortunately not to offer.

Conclusion: Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften is also in the second season again a political drama of the particularly rousing variety. The scripts are intelligent, the characters are consistently developed and the dramaturgy is exciting and extremely entertaining. Supported by a great ensemble of actors, it is simply fun to fever with the events in the Danish seat of government, Christiansborg Castle. The fact that there is no accompanying bonus material is a pity, but due to the high quality of the series quite bearable. In great anticipation of the third and final season, there is a clear: Absolutely recommended for this second Borgen box
