Film: In 2006 Nora Tschirner showed her film partner Christian Ulmen in FC Venus that football is not just a male domain. What few people know: the idea actually comes from Finland, where the story was already a hit movie a year earlier. Just in time for the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany, the Finnish original of FC Venus is finally coming to our home cinemas.

The relationship between Anna (Minna Haapkylä) and Pete (Petteri Summanen) could not be more harmonious. If only it weren't for Pete's passion for football, which he indulges with his buddies at amateur club FC HeMan. Anna is not particularly fond of the round leather. But when she finds out that Pete and his teammates have planned a secret trip to the World Cup finals in Germany, the fun is over. Anna puts the gun to her lover's head and proposes an unusual bet: if she and the other players' wives manage to beat the men in a deciding match, the boys will have to hang up their football boots and also give up their tickets to the World Cup. But although FC Venus is quickly formed and Anna has a few aces up her sleeve that Pete has no idea about, the preparations for the match against FC HeMan turn out to be more difficult than expected.

FC Venus comes along with a lot of Nordic charm and a very pretty story that works just as well in the original as it does in the very entertaining German version. The film is not only carried by the amusing initial situation, but in the first line by the numerous likeable characters. Even if Anna and Pete are in principle in the center of the action, the romantic football comedy is in the end clearly an ensemble piece. And that this is so convincing is also due to director Joona Tena, who has shown a really good hand in the selection of his actors.

There are indeed many clichés that are served here. But this is done with a lot of charm and wit, which makes it easy to see over small weaknesses. From time to time the whole thing is only on a good TV level, but the bottom line is that the Finnish original of FC Venus is an extremely likeable comedy, which even in the end credits with the Finnish rock version of the classic Venus still spreads good humor. Worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: Since only a data-reduced press DVD was available for the test, no information can be given about the final picture and sound quality.

Extras: Unfortunately, the DVD only has the trailer for the film, as well as a trailer show of the provider in the luggage.

Conclusion: The Finnish original of FC Venus is a warm-hearted comedy full of lovable characters and unobtrusive humor. Even those familiar with the German remake are sure to be infected by the Nordic charm of the original, which is very similar in content. Despite the lack of extras, a real recommendation, not only for all football lovers
