Content: Ever since he was shot in the line of duty, Alf Rybjerg (Thomas Hwan) has suffered greatly from the psychological toll of this trauma. The former investigator of the Copenhagen Economic Criminal Investigation Department is now with the Taskforce Nørrebro. With his colleagues, he is on the trail of an international drug ring. However, he does not yet suspect that the investigation will bring him back together with the former petty criminal Nicky (Esben Smed Jensen), who has now risen to become a big player in the Danish underworld. As Alf and his team get closer and closer to him, Nicky plans his exit from the drug business to start a new life with his son. Bank employee Anna (Maria Rich) also plays a big part in this. Frustrated by being passed over for a promotion yet again, she secures a lucrative - but also dangerous - side gig as a money launderer. But the more pressure the police apply, the greater the danger that Nicky or Anna will make a mistake - a mistake that could have dramatic consequences for everyone.

"Follow the Money" is not only going for a third round, but also in a new direction. As such, it's not so much a continuation of the events of season 2, but a spin-off set in the same universe as the first two seasons. Investigator Alf and criminal Nicky serve as a link between the stories. While the first two seasons focused on white-collar crime, season 3 takes it to the streets and underworld of Denmark. As a result, the whole thing doesn't feel like a mere continuation, but a whole new story with a few familiar faces. And even if there are a few small allusions to the events of the earlier episodes, this third season can also be recommended to all crime fans who are just getting into it here.

Season 3 also convinces again with the fact that multi-layered characters are at the center of the action here. Alf, for instance, is a good investigator, but is totally broken and makes some professional, as well as moral, mistakes as a result. Nicky is clearly more ruthless and violent than in the first seasons. Still, it's also apparent here that he actually has a good heart. He does some really bad things, and yet you wish he'd somehow get his act together in the end and start over with his young son. And Anna, finally, acts wrong but somehow understandable. She's top-notch at her job, but won't be promoted because of her age. Suddenly, a young colleague she once trained is sitting in front of her as the new boss. On top of that, her husband's company is struggling to survive. That she uses her skills to help her family and raise her self-esteem is criminal, but somehow understandable to the viewer.

Although there are a few minor lengths and some clichés, this third and final season of "Follow the Money" is again cleverly constructed, atmospherically tightly staged and very well acted crime entertainment that can generate top-notch suspense even without much action. Particularly impressive is the ending, which may not be what viewers want, but which is absolutely consistent in its unsparing nature and therefore more than satisfying. For this, there is clearly a: Absolutely worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: Picture and sound quality can convince here again on a good to very good TV level. The somewhat gloomy and dreary color scheme is able to capture the mood of the story very well. The image sharpness is on a decent level and only shows a few small weaknesses in the darker scenes. The Dolby Digital 2.0 mix is unspectacular, but can convince with a decent tuning of voices, ambient sounds and minor sound effects like gunfights. Good!

Extras: Bonus material has the DVD box unfortunately not to offer.

Conclusion: "Follow the Money" comes to an end with these ten new episodes. The third season tells a whole new story, no longer about white-collar crime, but about drug crime. The only link is investigator Alf and the criminal Nicky, whose story is told here exciting and haunting to the end. Technically, the DVD box can fully convince. Unfortunately, there is no bonus material for this season. All in all a clear case of: Absolutely recommendable, even if you do not know the first two seasons!
