I Am You - Murderous Desire - DVD

Movie: When fifteen-year-old Rachel (Kate Bell) doesn't come home from her dance class one night, her parents (Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto) realize something must have happened. Because Rachel has always been extremely reliable up until now and is very uncomfortable in the dark. Her boyfriend confesses that Rachel has told something about a secret job that would bring her a lot of money. But when the girl is still not back home the next day, the worried parents have no choice but to go to the police. They don't really take the girl's disappearance seriously and assume that this is once again the case of a teenager who ran away from home and will return safely in the next few days. But Rachel remains missing and the investigation reveals that she was last seen in the company of a young woman. Her former nanny Caroline (Ruth Bradley), of all people, becomes increasingly interesting to the investigators.

Based on a true incident, the psychological thriller I Am You is the impressive directorial debut of Simone North, who has used great acting and multi-layered staging to create an extremely effective psychological drama. By showing the case from the point of view of the victim, the parents and the perpetrator, she builds a dramaturgy that captivates and touches until the harrowing finale. Ruth Bradley leaves a special impression, offering the audience a shocking insight into a completely disturbed soul. Bradley's facial expressions alone during the actual tag are almost frighteningly haunting and give you not-so-pleasant goosebumps.

The Rachel Barber case is one of the most shocking murder cases in Australia's recent history. As the crime has caused quite a stir overseas, the outcome of the story is no real mystery. Nor does the film make any real effort to keep the girl's fate in the dark for very long. And yet, North does a first-rate job of building a dense atmosphere that keeps the suspense going until the very end. I Am You is, apart from a few moments, a rather quiet film, a quiet drama, which however has such a high intensity on a psychological level that this is completely enough to captivate the viewer. And this is exactly what makes the film absolutely recommendable for all those who appreciate sophisticated psycho-dramas!

Conclusion: I Am You - Murderous Longing is a haunting psychological thriller, which with its ambitious staging and convincing actors can linger for a long time. Ruth Bradley's performance in particular has an enormous intensity that gives the film a dense tension that is hard to resist, despite its rather slow, quiet staging. Absolutely recommendable
