Content: Congratulations: Meanwhile, "Inspector Barnaby" also successfully goes on DVD into the tenth round. In four new cases, the now deservedly retired John Nettles gets to prove once again that he has become one of the most popular and successful TV investigators of the last ten years for a reason.

DVD 1: LIGHTER LIVES LONGER

A car accident that at first seems simple prevents Barnaby from taking a carefree trip with his spouse. For the Inspector promptly finds himself on a new case, where he also runs into an old acquaintance, Melvyn Stockhard. A few years ago Barnaby had sent Stockhard to prison for fraud. Now the wealthy landowner wants to be on his best behavior and help Barnaby in any way he can. But when a body is pulled from the village well, even Stockhard doesn't look quite so innocent anymore...

DVD 2: MURDER WHEN THE LEAVES FALL

Dave Cutler, the mailman of Goodman`s Land, has truly left no stone unturned. So it`s no wonder that many a tear is shed when Dave is murdered one morning. The suspicion is close that a cuckolded husband has blown out the life light of the love-hungry postal clerk. But soon the next body is found and the case becomes more complicated than first thought. Much to the delight of Sergeant Troy, who seems very interested in young cop Jay Nash and only too happy to spend more time with her...

DVD 3: THE ANIMAL IN YOU

All Faith Alexander really wanted to do was visit her uncle when she arrived in Midsomer from the USA. But no sooner has she arrived than she first has to find out that her uncle Rex Masters has been telling everyone that Faith is dead. And then Rex is found murdered as well. Inspector Barnaby soon realizes that this is a case whose resolution is rooted deep in the family's past. Perhaps the reason Rex had declared his niece dead is a key to the denouement?

DVD 4: A SARG FROM CHINA

Six months ago, Alan King, part owner of Kings Crystal, was killed in a car accident in Shanghai. Now his widow is walking down the aisle with his brother and the family business is being sold. King's son is so incensed by this that he wants nothing more to do with his mother and especially his new stepfather. When Peter Baxter, accountant for Kings Crystal, is murdered, suspicion naturally falls first on Alan King's son. But Barnaby soon comes across quite a few secrets, which also let the accidental death in Shanghai shine in a new light...

The four new cases of Inspector Barnaby and Sergeant Troy offer again usual good entertainment of the typically British kind. Fans of the series can especially look forward to MURDER WHEN THE BLOODS FALL, the case in which Sergeant Troy finally gets to fall in love for once. The fact that Barnaby's wife and daughter have to suffer more and more from the inspector's criminal drive is also addressed several times. Really interesting, however, is the fourth case, A SARG FROM CHINA, which deviates a little from the usual pattern of the series. This begins with the action starting in Shanghai rather than Midsomer. The actual case then begins after a six month time jump and deals with the potential suspects and victims in a little more detail than usual before Barnaby and Troy show up. A very exciting case that stands out as a small highlight within this box.

Picture + Sound: Technically, the tenth DVD box is again on a decent TV level. Although there are again especially in the darker scenes again blurring and slight image noise, but especially in terms of color, the overall quite clean and sharp image can convince. The sound remains largely unspectacular, whereby the dialogues in the German version sound somewhat front-heavier and more powerful than in the English language version.

Extras: Unfortunately, this box again has no extras on board. Who reaches for the limited edition, at least gets a bonus disc with the music from the series offered.

Conclusion: Also the four episodes of the 10th box offer again British crime fare at its best. "Inspector Barnaby" may not be able to really surprise after all these years. But the series can still entertain - and on a high level. For fans of the series this tenth box is an absolute must!
