Content: Filmmaker Simon Busch invites you on a very special journey through the vast landscape of Lapland. On a snowmobile it goes in freezing temperatures through snowy forests, over frozen lakes and small settlements to the Arctic Circle. In the process, the viewer not only encounters reindeer and huskies, but also the Sámi, the indigenous people of Lapland. But the focus is clearly on the raw beauty of nature, captured with state-of-the-art cameras in stereoscopic Real 3D. Whether you enjoy these images on DVD in conventional 2D, or on Blu-Ray in 3D, this landscape is fascinatingly beautiful in every dimension.

Lapland Snow Adventure does try not to rely solely on its images. So the viewer is also given some interesting information about life in Lapland and how to properly deal with the pitfalls of nature. The correct operation of a snowmobile, barbecuing in deep snow, ice hole fishing or reindeer breeding are vividly brought closer to the viewer. Nevertheless, the documentary, which is very short at just under 40 minutes, clearly lives from its shots. Whether it's the snow-covered forests or the visit to a hidden cave, it's the fascinatingly beautiful images that give the film its special power.

Lapland Snow Adventure is therefore less a documentary with high information content than a visually stunning journey through Lapland, in which nature clearly plays the leading role. This is nice to look at and also offers the interested viewer some really great and insightful moments. However, the very short running time prevents a really in-depth impression into the country, its landscape and its inhabitants. The film makes you want to learn more about the nature, the history of Lapland, the Sámi, the reindeer and also about survival in the harsh wilderness. But since this is only offered to some extent, the film leaves a somewhat unsatisfying overall impression, despite its great pictures. However, if you just want to go on a visual journey through snowy Lapland, you really get the opportunity to dive into another world for 40 minutes. And for this there is then also a good: worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: The picture presents itself with a good to very good overall sharpness, in which even smaller details are well accentuated and an authentic color scheme. The fact that the film was shot in stereoscopic REAL 3D does not really come into its own on DVD, of course, but overall the high-quality technology is also very positively noticeable on this format. When it comes to the sound, on the other hand, it is noticeable that the narrative voice sounds quite tinny, while the music comes out of the speakers in decent quality. This depresses the positive overall impression of the technical implementation a little, so that in the end it is only enough for a good.

Extras: Except for trailers and a slideshow, the DVD has no other extras to offer.

Conclusion:Lapland Snow Adventure is an absolutely visually fascinating journey through the snowy deserts and snowy forests of Lapland. In addition to some truly impressive imagery, the nature documentary also offers some interesting insights into the lives of people living in the wasteland, from the proper operation of a snowmobile to reindeer herding and ice hole fishing to the dangers that lurk beneath the high snow cover. A beautiful, albeit arguably short, film that leaves a lasting impression, at least visually. Recommended
