Film: With the thriller "The Alzheimer Case" director Erik van Looy had landed a small surprise hit at various festivals. With the successor "Loft" the director now proves that he really masters his craft. Because this DVD premiere offers the viewer everything a good thriller needs: a suspenseful story, a surprising resolution, tingling eroticism and a classy look.

It should actually be the perfect retreat for five married friends: a loft in a luxury apartment complex, where the men can do everything, of which their wives better not find out. But when one day they find a badly battered woman's body in the loft, the fun for the friends ends with a blow. Mutual suspicions and murderous intrigue ensure that the situation soon threatens to escalate...

With a convoluted narrative that bounces jauntily between the present and various moments in the past, van Looy crafts an elegantly filmed puzzle that keeps the viewer riveted to the end. Admittedly, there are one or two hangs and some plot twists seem a bit arbitrary, at least at first glance. But in the end, "Loft" proves to be a first-class thriller that manages to surprise its viewers more than once.

Lovers of cleverly constructed thrillers about the abysses of human desires should definitely not miss this first-class DVD premiere!

Picture + Sound: The image of the DVD pleases with a good degree of sharpness, coherent contrasts and an atmospheric color mix. Only with the detail sharpness some small weaknesses are to be discerned. The sound remains front-heavy for long stretches and only the atmospheric music uses here and there the surround channels.

Extras: The DVD has not much to offer in terms of bonus material. Besides the trailer, there is only a making of to see. However, this is very detailed with just under 60 minutes running time and offers a comprehensive and very entertaining look at the filming. Worth seeing!

Conclusion: "Loft" is a clever thriller, whose small lengths are compensated by the ingenious twists. The DVD is technically well implemented and has as an extra to offer a making of as detailed as entertaining. For lovers of good thrillers absolutely recommendable!
