ERBARMEN - Dieses Hörspiel ist ganz großes Kino

Jussi Adler-Olsen's detective novels about Special Squad Q are not only a hit as a book. The previous film adaptations have also been a huge hit with audiences. Now Audible is releasing the bestseller ERBARMEN as a first-class audio play experience - that's great cinema for the ears! To guarantee this, the main roles were prominently cast with Justus von Dohnányi, Denis Moschitto and Carolin Kebekus.

The decision to set up such a lavish audio play production was obvious, because after all, the download of digital listening hours at audible.de has doubled within the last three years! And as Netflix, for example, has proven, it pays to invest in your own high-quality content in order to attract and retain a discerning audience. And that's exactly what Audible wants to offer its listeners: With up-to-date content, top-class authors and directors, first-class narrators as well as qualitatively elaborate realizations, Audible is taking the production of original audio plays to a new level and thus setting a trend in the German audio book industry.

Torsten Surberg, Head of Content Audible Germany says: "Audio plays are booming! More and more people are discovering the possibility of experiencing stories in this form. Great narrators, captivating soundscapes and dramatic music create images in the listener's mind without prescribing them down to the last detail as in a film. With this elaborate production and a top cast with Justus von Dohnányi, Denis Moschitto and Carolin Kebekus, we offer our listeners another opportunity to rediscover one of the most popular stories, almost a classic of the genre."

And it is precisely with these ingredients that the adaptation of the thriller "Erbarmen" has been created, an eleven-hour radio play that offers a particularly extraordinary and exciting listening experience, in which you literally lose yourself as a listener. Of course, this is also thanks to the very special narrative style of Jussi Adler-Olsen. The novelist was awarded the European Crime Prize in 2015 and is one of the most successful crime writers of our time. In Germany in particular, he is one of the most popular authors of recent years, having sold millions of books, and has played a major role in shaping the genre success of Scandinavian crime novels and thrillers.

The main roles are spoken by acting and TV stars Justus von Dohnányi, Denis Moschitto, Carolin Kebekus and Matthias Koeberlin in a supporting role. The story is narrated by one of Germany's most popular audio book narrators: Erich Räuker. The increasing popularity of audio plays offers actors new, no less exciting opportunities. Focused only on the text, an actor can once again demonstrate his talent in a completely different way than in front of the camera.

Justus von Dohnányi has also experienced this during his work behind the microphone. He is extremely enthusiastic about his role, precisely because he only has to bring it to life with his voice: "I like the role of Commissioner Carl Mørck, who is a likeable guy despite his rough edges. It gave me great pleasure to voice this character. Working in the studio, while there are some differences from acting, there are also key similarities: You put just as much effort into the role, have to convey emotions and basically act as you would in front of the camera. The quality of radio play production is now comparable to that of TV series. This constantly growing radio play market makes it possible that radio plays can and must become more elaborate in every respect. This is great cinema for the ears!"

Similarly, Carolin Kebekus, who could work here completely detached from her image as a comedienne: "I found the role of Merete Lynggaard very appealing. Merete was the model woman of the Danish Democratic Party - until she was kidnapped. She survives 5 years in captivity in a room with no windows to the outside world. To convey her physical and emotional pain only through my voice was an insane challenge. Merete is an incredibly strong and exciting character, giving me the opportunity to step into a completely new and unfamiliar role for once."

And that's what ERBARMEN is all about:
The distorted voice came from a speaker somewhere in the dark: "Happy birthday, Merete. You've been here 126 days now, and this is our gift: the light will stay on for a year from now. Unless you know the answer: why are we holding you?"

On March 2, 2002, a woman disappears without a trace on the ferry from Rødby to Puttgarden, death by drowning is suspected. Five years later, Inspector Carl Mørck (JUSTUS VON DOHNÁNYI), who has just been "promoted" to Special Squad Q, triggers an avalanche with his first case: With the help of his quasi-assistant Assad (DENIS MOSCHITTO), he becomes convinced that politician Merete Lynggaard (CAROLIN KEBEKUS), believed dead for years, may be alive after all. His suspicions are confirmed and a nerve-wracking race against time begins that will leave listeners breathless.
