Content: After a group of teenagers get caught in a mysterious lightning storm while doing community service and get struck by lightning, they find that they suddenly have special powers: Kelly (Lauren Soche) is telepathically gifted, Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarett) can travel back in time for a few moments, Simon (Iwan Rheon) can turn invisible and Alisha (Antonia Thomas) drives anyone who touches her to sexual madness. Only Nathan (Robert Sheehan) seemed to have no special power for a long time. It wasn't until after what should have been a fatal accident at the end of the first season that he discovered he was apparently immortal. Too bad his friends buried him long ago. But a stranger leads the teens to Nathan's grave, where Kelly is able to read his once again less than decent mind. After freeing their friend from his grave, however, the Misfits soon face new dangers. A shapeshifter, Nathan's half-brother Jamie, a new juvenile delinquent who has been able to teleport since the thunderstorm and, of course, the masked stranger who reveals his surprising identity only to Alisha, cause all sorts of turmoil in the teens' lives. But that's not all: when social worker Shaun finds out their secret and reveals it to the press, the Misfits find themselves confronted with sudden celebrity, but with dangerous consequences...

The second season of Misfits picks up virtually directly from the events of the first season. So jumping in here anew is rather inconvenient. However, if you know the first season, you can follow the continuation of the original story in almost the same quality. For although the series in the second season no longer has quite the surprising originality that made just the first episodes so special, the creators very well avoid resting on their laurels. Instead of simply varying the familiar, the story and its characters are consistently developed further. Of course, the basic structure of the series remains the same. Still, there's never a feeling that the whole thing is treading water and constantly repeating itself.

The strongest aspect of the first season, the mixing of fantastical elements with the very real concerns of teenagers and the many problems that come with growing up that can't be solved with supernatural powers, works very well again in the new episodes. The humor is a bit raunchy at times, especially when Nathan is at the center of the action. Still, the level never drops to the point that it takes away from the ambition that the series is able to build in its more dramatic moments.

Of particular interest in season 2 is the identity of the mysterious stranger who leads the Misfits to Nathan's grave at the beginning of the first episode. His mission and his relationship with Alisha are without question some of the best moments of the new episodes. If you like original fantasy entertainment and exciting as well as amusing youth series, you should not miss this series. Therefore, also applies to season 2 of Misfits: absolutely worth watching!

Picture + Sound: As with the first season, the technical implementation of the new episodes is also on a good level. The picture is very clean and free of major glitches. Only slight image noise is sporadically detectable in dark sequences. Otherwise, the visual realization can convince with a slightly artificial, but very coherent color scheme and a good overall sharpness. The German soundtrack is available in a good Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. This brings especially the isolated sound effects well to the fore, while the dialogue in the English soundtrack sound a little more harmonious inserted into the action and seem to be mixed in the German a little more directional. Good!

Extras: Bonus material has the second season unfortunately not to offer.

Conclusion: The second season of Misfits can not quite keep the high level of the first episodes, as the surprise effect has also worn a little. Nevertheless, the concept and its interesting development still work really well and ensure that this fantasy youth series is far above the level of other comparable series. The double DVD offers all episodes of the second season and the Christmas special in good technical realization, however, in contrast to season 1, this time the extras of the British DVD (Making of, Behind the Scenes, etc.) have been omitted. Nevertheless: if you liked the first season, you should definitely get the new episodes - this is the only way to guarantee that the next seasons of this original series will make it to Germany!
