Movie: When unscrupulous real estate shark Stark (Robert Picardo) comes across an ancient Native American artifact during construction on a major new project, he orders his workers to remove the object, no matter what it means to the culture of the region's inhabitants. Too bad, however, that the uncovering of the artifact has brought a giant monster wolf to life, which of course first descends upon the workers. In order to prevent a PR disaster, Stark calls in the young lawyer Maria (Leonor Varela), who is originally from the region. Of course, Maria soon runs into important people from her past, like her one-time love, Yale (Jason London). But even Maria can't erase the bloody trail left by the monster wolf. But she has no idea yet how closely connected she is to the murdering beast.

Monsterwolf is a production of the American SyFy channel, which is not exactly known for high-quality genre goods with masterpieces like Sharktopus or Mega Piranha. Rather, cheap effects and trashy stories are the hallmark of these films. Monster Wolf also stays true to this line, with one difference: even if here one cliché chases the next, the dialogues are sometimes grotty and also the actors only effortfully play against the weak script, the film is somehow really fun in its very own way.

director Todor Chapkanov keeps flashing a pleasant touch of self-mockery in his production, which combined with some completely over-the-top sequences leads to a certain fun factor that runs throughout the film. In addition, the film also looks a bit better overall visually, like other works the SyFy Channel has had produced in the recent past. Robert Picardo (Star Terk: Voyager) also gives such a wonderfully over-the-top performance as the villain that he's just a joy to watch.

Sure, Monster Wolf is and remains a B-movie with a high trash factor. Therefore, those who need a certain standard and really good effects for perfect movie enjoyment should rather keep their hands off this work. But who can also have pleasure in entertainment of a somewhat simpler kind and is able to enjoy exaggerated effects and light irony, this monster movie can definitely be recommended!

Picture + Sound: Since only a data-reduced press sample was available for testing, no information can be given about the final picture and sound quality at this point.

Extras: Also the bonus material could not be sighted on the press DVD. Announced are only the trailer and other program tips from the provider.

Conclusion: Monsterwolf bristles with clichés, bad dialogue and wooden actors - and yet the B-movie has a high fun factor and thus becomes enjoyable horror trash. And this one can definitely be recommended to fans of the genre who can also enjoy not-so-high-quality productions
