Content: Events in Sherwood Forrest are heading towards their grand finale. After the dramatic loss Robin Hood (Jonas Armstrong) suffered at the end of season two, he is out for revenge. He can no longer be the hero of Sherwood Forrest and decides to leave the Outlaws. But before Robin can face his nemesis Gisborne (Richard Armitage) and put his own life in danger, he is taken away by the mysterious Tuck (David Harewood). Robin seems certain that Tuck will betray him, but as is so often the case in Sherwood Forrest, things are not as they first seem.

Naturally, Robin reunites with his fellow outlaws, and the band also finds a helpful ally in the tough Kate (Joanne Froggatt, Downton Abbey). But the sheriff (Keith Allen) isn't idle either. He bullies the inhabitants of Locksley with a new tax collector and doesn't miss any opportunity to make Robin Hood's life difficult. But all of a sudden he is confronted with a whole new opponent: his loyal subordinate Gisborne, of all people, is out to get him...

Robin Hood enters its final round with its third season. This is a bit of a shame in that the series seems to have reached the point here where it has found its own unique tone and where the cast have finally connected with their roles. Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) and Jonas Armstrong in particular are better here than ever. Plus, with Joanne Froggatt as Kate and Davie Harewood as Tuck, there's a breath of fresh air to the proceedings that the series can really benefit from.

The positive aspect of the approaching end, on the other hand, is that the episodes of season three rarely dwell on trivialities. Everything is heading towards the grand finale, which then comes in time for the series' qualitative climax. Robin Hood could not have said goodbye to his fans in a better way.

Although especially the beginning of season 3 turns out to be rather gloomy, the new episodes again offer the usual and popular mixture of adventure, humor, suspense and drama. If you already appreciated that in the first two seasons and were well entertained by this version of the legend, you simply can't get past the last two boxes of this third season. Worth seeing!!

Picture + Sound: The technical realization is exactly on the level of the previous boxes. The picture is clean and only reveals slight image noise in some darker sequences. Vivid colors and an overall good level of sharpness, on the other hand, leave a positive impression. The audio is primarily dominated by the dialogue and music, but occasionally has well-executed sound effects to offer, which provide pleasant movement in the surround. Overall, the whole thing is on good to very good TV level!

Extras: Bonus material has this box unfortunately not to offer.

Conclusion: The first part of the third and final season of Robin Hood inevitably starts off a little darker than the previous seasons and is noticeably heading towards the grand finale. The new characters introduced in the first episodes provide a bit of fresh air to the series, which otherwise sticks to its overall dramaturgical pattern in the third round. Suspense, adventure, a little less humor than before and actors who have now grown very well into their roles, make these almost final episodes again very good entertainment television. Only the missing bonus material clouds the otherwise positive impression of this half-season box. For fans there is only one possible conclusion: Absolutely recommendable!
