Movie: There the hostile Ober- and Unterrieslinger successfully got together to keep their church in the village, and now this: the church roof collapses and pastor Schäuble threatens to throw himself from the ramshackle steeple to his death. Because he has drunk away every cent of the money his flock has donated to the church. And there is no new loan from the bank. And so the church that was just saved is on the brink of collapse again. But there is a small ray of hope: a music competition is taking place in Hamburg, where there is enough money to be won to renovate the church. But to have any chance of winning, the rock band from Unterrieslingen and the brass band from Oberrieslingen have to join forces and form a harmonious unit. And that is almost an impossibility with these two villages.

With Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf (The Church Remains in the Village) Ulrike Grote landed a real surprise hit in 2012, which also drew audiences to the cinema beyond the borders of Swabia. After doing extremely well at the box office, a television series was staged in 2013, for which some of the actors from the feature film repeated their roles, while others were replaced. The series was also a respectable success, which is why a second film was released in 2015, again with the original cast of the first part and with Ulrike Grote behind the camera. Täterätää! Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf 2 was unable to repeat the success of the first, however, and the reviews were also largely more subdued than for the first part.

In fact, the sequel is really not quite as funny, charming and biting as the first film. The story feels a bit forced, the dialogue a bit flat at times, and the staging a bit too chaotic. And yet the film is still a lot of fun in its own way. Especially when the Swabians meet the Hamburgers and there is an amusing dialect duel, the comedy can fully play out its potential. In addition, the characters are just so wonderfully quirky drawn that you still have to smile even at weaker gags.

The only real problem with the film is the structure of the dramaturgy. Ulrike Grote takes a long time to develop the story and establish the need for the disgruntled communities to reunite and travel to Hamburg together. When the journey finally begins, it's hit after hit until the really badly rushed finale, which somehow feels unfinished and therefore fizzles out in the void. And as a climax is slowly built up here that doesn't really happen, the film definitely leaves a certain feeling of disappointment.

Despite this: if you like the weird birds from Unterrieslingen and Oberrieslingen and can't get enough of Swabian wordplay and sympathetic church rescue attempts, you'll get 90 minutes of nice, entertaining and amusing entertainment here. Worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: The DVD's picture is absolutely clean and also pleases with a high image sharpness, through which even smaller details in most scenes are very well accentuated. The colour scheme is slightly alienated, but captures the atmosphere of the comedy and the beautiful filming locations in Swabia very well with the warm tones throughout and their powerful delivery. The audio is primarily dominated by the dialogue and soundtrack, as is usual with this genre, but here and there there are a few well-used ambient noises or sound effects that also challenge the surround channels. Good.

Extras: As a bonus, the DVD has seven short clips to offer, in which the actors Bäggschdäidsch can be seen during the filming (about 14:50 min.). In addition, there is the music video for the song Mir händ hier älles (approx. 3:18 min.), 3 Handy-Aus spots and the trailer for the film.

Conclusion: Täterätää! Die Kirche bleibt im Dorf 2 is the sequel to the cinema surprise success of 2012. Director Ulrike Grote has tried to fill the second part again with the biting Swabian humor and charm of the predecessor. She succeeds quite well in parts, but at other moments it seems a little too forced. So part 2 still offers nice and entertaining entertainment with a few very good laughs. But the sequel doesn't reach the quality of the first film. The DVD presents the lively hustle and bustle in appealing picture and sound quality and also has a few amusing extras to offer. Who likes the first film and the television series, which can also access here confidently. Recommendable
