Content: The Last Cop Mick Brisgau (Henning Baum) returns for a third season! After the dramatic finale of the second season, in which police psychologist Tanja (Proschat Madani) was shot, everyday life is slowly returning to the Essen homicide squad. However, Mick and Tanja's already complicated relationship suffers from Mick's overprotective nature and Tanja's iron will to get back to work as quickly as possible and without help. When an old friend of Tanja's turns up and apparently tries to dispute Mick's place at the psychologist's side, a carefree future as a couple is made even more difficult.

This is not enough, there are also personnel changes in the police department: Martin Ferchert (Helmfried von Lüttichau) becomes the new press officer of the police, which makes a replacement of the chief chair necessary. But against all expectations, Mick and his partner Andreas (Maximilian Grill) are passed over in the process and Tanja, of all people, now becomes their superior, seemingly putting the relationship between her and Mick on ice for good. But a new interested party is not long in coming: Ferchert's attractive assistant Christine (Suzan Anbeh) seems to have her eye on the last cop. But one person doesn't like this at all: Christine's brother Roland Meisner (Robert Lohr). Pure emotional chaos, which takes on completely new dimensions for Andreas when he gets a very special news from his girlfriend Dana (Karoline Schuch).

In addition to all the personal confusion, Mick and Andreas must also solve several new cases to ensure safety on the streets of Essen. A nymphomaniac librarian, a kidnapped ex-professional footballer, a murdered bestselling author who lived in an unusual relationship constellation, a stabbed fencing coach and a killed adult education teacher are just some of the tough nuts to crack for the investigators. But when a fellow CID officer is murdered and the whole department is being investigated by Internal Affairs, and finally the case that was supposed to be closed about the man who shot Mick into a coma all those years ago comes up again, things get extremely personal for the last cop standing.

The last cop presents itself again in the third season as an entertaining mixture of humor and suspense, whereby of course the macho cop Mick, who is somehow stuck in the 80s due to his coma, again provides the most amusing moments of the new episodes with his sayings. However, it takes a little while for the third year to get going. The first episodes lack a lot of the charm and wit that have so far given the series that special something. The humor as well as the use of 80s hits seems too penetrating and somehow forced. And the relationship between Mick and Tanja, which was still tingling in the first season, but already a bit worn out in the second season, is finally overused here. The appearance of Suzan Anbeh as the shrewd Christine is therefore a more than welcome change.

After the somewhat bumpy and also disappointing beginning, however, the series manages to get back to its usual class after a few episodes. The humor becomes a bit more biting again and the timing hits the mark more often. And also the many good guest stars, from Heinz Hoenig to Stefan Jürgens, Michael Kessler or Horst Janson, make the new episodes absolutely worth watching despite small weaknesses.

A real treat for all Henning Baum fans, however, is the episode Alles Verräter. Here Baum has a reunion with Elena Uhlig, his partner from the popular series Mit Herz und Handschellen, but here she plays a much less charming role than that of the slightly chaotic Nina Metz.

As with season 2, the third year again ends with a cliffhanger that could reshuffle the cards entirely for the already announced fourth season - if the makers have the courage to break some new ground next year. The only thing that shouldn't change is Mick's partner Andreas, as the chemistry between the two mismatched men is still the main pillar on which the series still stands securely, even in rather shaky moments.

If you already liked the first two seasons of The Last Cop, you can't get past the new episodes. Just overlook the somewhat weaker first episodes, then again the best crime entertainment with the coolest cop in Germany is guaranteed. Worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: Apart from a few small blurs and slight after-effects in a few scenes, the overall picture quality is on a decent TV level. The image sharpness is good, the colors are mixed coherently and the contrasts are also implemented satisfactorily in most moments. The audio, which is in stereo, is primarily dominated by the dialogue and the soundtrack, which can be a bit intrusive at times. This is not quite a great listening experience, but for a crime series that lives primarily from its amusing dialogues, this is perfectly adequate. Good!

Extras: In addition to 12 minutes of sometimes very funny outtakes, in which Maximilian Grill in particular provides some amusing moments, the third DVD has about 30 minutes of interviews with the cast, the writers and the set designer, who talks about the new Presidium. Not really mind-blowing, but the interviews do hold a few interesting moments. Definitely worth watching for fans!

Conclusion: The Last Cop lost its bite a bit, especially at the beginning of the third season. But after a bumpy start, the series finds almost completely back to the old quality, can score with cool sayings, amusing moments, exciting cases and prominent guest stars. The DVD box of the third season presents the thirteen episodes in decent picture and sound quality and has as a bonus funny outtakes and not uninteresting interviews to offer. Therefore, fans of the series can access this season again without worry!
