Film: If in the media, be it film or television, women are shown who feel lust, have sex and make their needs known openly, then it is usually about young, attractive women. Even with ladies over 40, the whole thing is something special that causes a certain stir or is at least worth mentioning. Once 50 or even 60 is passed, sexual pleasure seems to be completely taboo for women. As much as our society may have changed in recent decades, the topic of sex in old age is still a taboo today - a taboo that Gabi Schweiger wants to break in her documentary The Lust of Women.

Five women between the ages of 62 and 70, who speak openly about their sexuality, Schweiger has gathered in front of her camera. There is, for example, 65-year-old Christa, who lives with her boyfriend from Africa, who is 24 years younger than her, a fact that she has long concealed from her mother, who is over 90 years old. But the old lady's reaction to her daughter's confession surprises not only Christa. Brigitte, 70, also openly admits that she loves sex. Despite pain in her knees and hips, she still pursues her passion, just like the hedgehogs: very carefully! Birgit (64), on the other hand, tells how she experienced the 68ers and how difficult it was for her to admit her homosexuality. And Ina (62) feels that the fact that her husband Egon is even undergoing therapy in order to be able to meet his wife's needs is the greatest declaration of love that a man can make to a woman.

Amazing, too, is 63-year-old Bernadette, who has only learned to really accept her body in old age and who recreates some old footage taken of her for this film, including nudes. The relaxed approach to the subject of sex and nudity, as well as the stories these women tell about their past, rounded out with photos and old footage, is what makes this documentary so entertaining, and in some ways, very important. Because love, lust and passion should never be taboo, no matter what age. Recommended!

Image + Sound: The technical realization is exactly what may be expected from a current documentary. Clean picture, a good color scheme and pleasant sharpness, decent, rather front-heavy sound, which is primarily characterized by well-mixed conversations. Good!

Extras: Bonus material has the DVD not to offer. Not even a trailer is to be seen. Too bad.

Conclusion: The lust of women is a very open, honest and entertaining documentary, which breaks completely relaxed with an age-old taboo. The DVD presents itself technically on a good level, only the lack of any extras falls a little negatively into the weight. Nevertheless, there is overall a deserved: recommendable!
