Film: In the tranquil fishing village of Seydisfjordur, the world still seems all right. Apart from a fire a few years ago, in which a young girl fell victim, there is hardly any crime worth mentioning here. Therefore, the three police officers of the village are actually sufficient. But when a dismembered body is fished out of the sea off the coast, police officer Andri (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and his two colleagues quickly reach their limits. For the dead man seems to have been thrown from a cruise ship that has just docked at the port. Andri has to take on the captain of the ship to prevent him from continuing his journey until the case is solved. But suddenly the investigators also find themselves dealing with a human trafficking case and another death. Help from Reykjavik is not to be expected, as Seydisfjordur is cut off from the outside world by a snowstorm. And so it's up to the three policemen to find the killer on their own, opening up old wounds and uncovering deeply buried secrets. Director Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband, Everest) has directed Trapped - Trapped in Iceland, a gripping mini-series about isolation, revenge, guilt and atonement. Immersed in mesmerizingly beautiful shots of Iceland's landscape, the series builds an engagingly dark atmosphere right from the start, and the story thrives on it right to the end. After a shocking opening sequence, the plot jumps forward several years to the present. It's not yet clear what the events just shown have to do with what Andri and his small team are confronted with. But little by little the pieces of the puzzle are put together here, which also increases the tension level from episode to episode. Kormákur, his co-writers and the directors of the series have succeeded very well in bringing the small village community to life with some interesting characters. As a viewer, you don't really want to live here, but you can't help but be fascinated by the web of murder, corruption and violence behind a deceptively idyllic backdrop. Even though there are some lengths and also predictable clichés in the course of the ten episodes, it never really gets boring. At the end, some questions remain unanswered - for example about the events of Andri's police service before he got himself transferred to Seydisfjordur. Despite this, after the case has been solved, a very positive overall impression prevails due to the good actors, the atmospherically dense production and not least due to the great landscape shots, which ensures that this Icelandic mini-series has earned a clear absolutely worth watching. Image + Sound: The fascinating landscape shots and the ominous atmosphere of the series is well reproduced by the visual realization of the Blu-ray. The color scheme is subdued, making it perfectly suited to the action. Image sharpness is at a good level even in the darker scenes. The sound lives on the dialogues, but offers with ambient sounds such as the whistling wind, a departing avalanche or the crashing waves always good surround moments. Good. Extras: On the second disc there is a nearly 20-minute making of, which has some interesting information about the shooting in freezing cold and about the recordings in the studio to offer. Not really much, but absolutely worth watching! Conclusion: Trapped - Gefangen in Island is a very exciting ten-part series from Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur who has also been very successful in Hollywood. The series manages with a gripping atmosphere, fascinating dark images and a suspenseful story to captivate despite some lengths to the finale and offer the best crime entertainment. The Blu-ray presents the thriller in good picture and sound quality. As a bonus, there is a customary, but quite worth seeing Making of. Overall, this is enough for a satisfied: recommendable!
