Content: The second year of studies for the priest candidates in the venerable Capuchin monastery in Paris starts with some dramatic changes. Following the departure of Abbot Primate Father Fromenger (Jean-Luc Bideau), Father Bosco (Thierry Gimonez) is the new head of the monastery. Actually he should take care of the financial problems of the monastery with all his strength. But his illness, which he still keeps a secret, is harder on him than he would like to admit. The young candidates for the priesthood have no idea of the extent of the financial difficulties. They are primarily concerned that their comrade José (Samuel Jouy) be readmitted. The former inmate is in a wheelchair after an apparent relapse into his life of crime and also suffers from deep depression due to his expulsion from the seminary. But the young men also struggle with other problems. Guillaume (Clément Manuel), for example, increasingly struggles with his homosexuality, and the sensitive Yann (Julian Bouanich) also questions his vocation after an encounter with a childhood friend. But when it becomes clear that the days of the monastery may soon be numbered, the young men find themselves confronted with a whole new set of worries about the future...

Your will be done is once again convincing in its second year with its mix of sensitive drama, very authentic-looking characters and the weaving of important, sometimes quite explosive themes into the well-written scripts. For example, the very differentiated discussion about gay marriage or the extremely exciting examination of the effects of the financial crisis on the church in a pleasantly matter-of-fact way not only offer rousing entertainment, but also make you think. In addition, the creators succeed very vividly in depicting the various hierarchies within the church.

It is particularly positive that a critical questioning, but never really accusatory tone is struck. The series wants to take a look behind the monastery walls as realistically as possible, but does not see itself as an advertising film for the Catholic Church. Rather, it shows why the church is so enormously important for many people, especially in this day and age, what its traditions mean to believers and where it offers many people support and refuge. On the other hand, the handling of topics such as homosexuality is also critically examined. It is shown where the church perhaps makes mistakes, where it does not detach itself enough from its strictly prescribed traditions, which is why so many people turn away from it. This creates a very balanced overall picture, which is what makes the series so outstanding, despite some rather conventionally knit plot lines.

If you appreciate quiet drama, great actors, engaging imagery, interesting themes, and stirring production throughout, you definitely shouldn't miss this example of quality European television. After the end of the second season, one can be curious to see where the journey will go next year. Because even if the last episode would have worked as a series finale, all viewers who have taken a liking to the series can rejoice in the fact that season 3 is already in the works. Absolutely worth watching!

Image + Sound: The audiovisual realization of the series for the DVD is on a good to very good TV level. The picture is absolutely clean, but on closer inspection exhibits ever-so-slight image trickling in the darker moments. The image sharpness also suffers from this, which turns out very well especially in brighter outdoor scenes, but shows some small weaknesses in darker scenes. The sound, which is only available in a decent stereo mix, is largely restrained, but allows the dialogue to sound very intelligible, which is also the most important aspect for this series. For this, there is then an unspectacular, but decent: Good!

Extras: Except for trailers and a booklet, there is unfortunately no bonus material.

Conclusion:Your will be done continues in the second season the story around the young priesthood candidates consistently and shuffles at the end of the eight episodes the cards for the next season completely new. In its second year, the series continues to do a great job of making the characters seem absolutely real and repeatedly bringing sensitive issues into the story's focus. The result is gripping, moving and extremely entertaining, without becoming too striking or sinking into pathos. If you already liked the first season, you definitely shouldn't miss these new episodes! Absolutely recommended!
