The film tells the story of Arab feminism, which is little known in Europe. To make it, Feriel Ben Mahmoud conducted interviews with women from different generations in Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, as well as Lebanon, and tracked down historical archival footage to document the struggle for women's rights in Muslim-majority societies that has been going on for more than a century. "With its previously unpublished archival footage and cross-generational interviews, Feminism Insha'allah! is an indispensable resource for women's studies, global feminism, and studies of the Middle East as well as Islamic societies." (Women Make Movies).

The film also shows which domestic political disputes, as well as which foreign policy influences, promoted or set back emancipation movements in the respective countries. The film's central message is that without equal rights for women there can be no democracy.

Director Feriel Ben Mahmoud, born in 1976, studied history and political science in Paris. She has been producing documentaries on women's rights in Arab countries since 2001. For La révolution des femmes - Un siècle de féminisme arabe she received numerous awards at festivals worldwide.
