"9 To 5 - WORKING for a living", is the original title song of the musical, the German version of which the Dreieichschule Langen will bring to the stage of the Neue Stadthalle next June. What is meant is: a full-time job that can eat you up - especially if, as a woman, you are also, for example, a mother, a spouse or constantly disadvantaged, sexist discriminated against and harassed at work.
Humorously, an 80s movie with style icon Dolly Parton (author of the song) already brought this topic to the point and since 2009 a Broadway musical of the same name conquers tour and theater stages worldwide. If you expect mainly country music, you're wrong: soul, rock, jazz, vaudeville and even some tasty country references make for extremely gripping musical theatre with lots of - not always politically over-correct - social commentary. As for the plot, let's just say that when more than two strong women unite their voices, smug macho bosses don't have a rosy future. Despite a socially critical stance, "9 To 5" is thereby first and foremost a groovy musical comedy that by no means promises a delicious evening only for power women.
The Dreieichschule will once again involve more than 200 participants with this new large-scale project and inspire them with its great creative power and diversity.
