Only once Akua Naru went strange. In 2016, the Conscious rapper performed as part of the "W-Festival" at the Sankt Peter Kirche. Her Frankfurt debut went over the stage of Brotfabrik in March 2015, there she was so celebrated that she came to Bachmannstraße for a second time only half a year later. By public demand, so to speak. That doesn't happen that often either. In October of last year, the US-American, who lives in Cologne, made another stop in Hausen on her "When The Joy Comes" tour. With "The Blackest Joy", released at the end of April, LaTanya Olatunji (her real name) now presents her new CD in the Brotfabrik. Already ennobled after the release of her debut "The Miner's Canary by Afrobeat drumming legend Tony Allen with the statement "This lady is the keeper oft he cool flow", she has further refined her jazz- and soulinfied Afro sound to her also feminist poetry full of political urgency. Akua Naru herself says of her new tracks, "This is my whole heart. This is a labor of love. This is independent organic live music. This is jazz hop. I am a soldier for black joy. This is the movement."
