The station drama accompanies him on his way to his bride, whom he has shamefully jilted, but he firmly believes that she is waiting for him and will remain faithful. Again and again he has flashbacks in which he recognizes his bride in other women. His heart also troubles him. Along the way he encounters 35 women of all ages, a fierce battle begins to rage within him: to give in to the temptations or to remain steadfast. But what is it that draws all these women to Don Juan again and again, and to whom they all lie? Horváth explores this question in his play.
Horváth's drama is supplemented with text excerpts from the novella "Casanova's Journey Home" by Arthur Schnitzler.
